Not a bad way to spend Mother’s Day seeing the sights of Venice.
Started with a scrumptious and leisurely breakfast in the dining area of our hotel- al fresco, beautiful weather with the sun shining. We then hired gondolas - 2 for the 8 of us for 45 minutes. Had a wonderful time! Took lots of photos- so friends.....beware!
After cruising the canals around St Mark’s Square it was then time to see the area by foot. We wandered the perimeter of the square doing lots of window shopping whilst enjoying the many musical groups providing the ambience to the scene.
Although we have been to Venice before we had not seen many of ‘the sights’. Today we toured the Doge’s Palace- WOW! And visited the museum. Many displays of so many things including a collection of 16th and 17th century music - manuscripts and instruments.
Today we did lots of walking, step climbing and descending - hopefully that has helped shift some of the food and drink we have thoroughly been enjoying. We enjoyed happy hour at a jazz pub. John and I had sangrias. The ceiling of this place had bras of all different sizes and colours hanging from and covering the whole ceiling - I’ve never seen that before!! Apparently, if the ladies offer their bra, they receive a T-shirt as a souvenir. Needless to say, Jill didn't need a T-shirt that badly. The photos don’t do the place justice!
The shops here have the most beautiful clothes and shoes. Quite expensive but superb. Sadly , or fortunately we won’t have time to shop in the morning and due to the sightseeeing today, we didn’t shop.
We finished up the day with dinner here at the hotel - al fresco again. All of us are feeling weary after a day of seeing the sights so we are now off to bed at 9.30pm - I think the effects of travelling such a long distance are catching up with us.
What an amazingly beautiful day - we are extremely fortunate to be able to travel like this.
